The Baxter Theatre is collaborating with Standard Bank Young Artists for Theatre 2022, Billy Langa and Mahlatsi Mokgonyana, known as Theatre Duo, to present “of Loss – handle with care”, at the Baxter Flipside, from Saturday October 14 to Saturday October 21, at 7.30pm nightly, with Saturday matinee performances at 11am on October 14 and at 2pm on October 21.
This brand-new work is an equally physical and metaphysically probing production that investigates and challenges the continued possession and exhibition of stolen African artefacts in Western public institutions abroad.
It serves as a metaphor to revive the conversation around intentional restitution. “of Loss – handle” with care not only poses questions around this unjustly paraded theft and the deep generational grief that it has struck, but also encourages tilting the mirror inwards and begs the question, “what is it that I have lost?”
“of Loss – handle” has an age restriction of 13 years and parental guidance is advised.
