The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) is appealing for information after a woman in a yellow T-shirt possibly went missing in the surf at Sunrise Beach, near Muizenberg, on Monday November 11.
NSRI Strandfontein station commander Nicolette Whitehead said the incident happened around 11.40am when an eyewitness reported seeing a woman in distress before disappearing under the water in the surf zone.
The City of Cape Town’s water rescue network, including NSRI Strandfontein, City lifeguards, Law Enforcement officers, and Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service, were dispatched around 11.44am following the report.
An extensive search was launched, involving NSRI rescue swimmers, City rescue craft and rescue jet-ski units. Despite efforts to locate the woman, no signs of her were found.
Muizenberg police spokesman Captain Stephen Knapp said no eyewitnesses had come forward to give a statement and no one had reported a missing person.
