The Fish Hoek Lions Club has joined Mobile Meals, a non-profit organisation that has been providing meals to the elderly for more than 40 years.
The club will be cooking for Mobile Meals once a month, assisting the organisation in its mission to deliver meals to those in need.
In October, the Echo reported that Mobile Meals has twelve cooking teams – provided with R750 for ingredients to prepare a meal for 25 people consisting of a meat dish, vegetables, a pudding or cupcake, and fruit. They cook throughout the month in a kitchen at False Bay Hospital or at their homes (“Call for volunteers to join Mobile meals,” Echo, October 14)
The Lions Club has been added to the monthly roster, and with hunger as one of the core pillars of the Lions Club, it was pleased to support Mobile Meals, said Lion Lauren Winder.
“We thoroughly enjoyed planning our meal, shopping, and cooking, and look forward to our next slot on the roster,” she said.
Denise Bateman, chairperson of Mobile Meals, said that after the Lions Club’s first cook on Sunday, the meals had been delivered to recipients on Monday.
Ms Bateman said Mobile Meals had a shortage of cooks, and the Lions Club’s involvement had enabled the organisation to continue offering meals to the elderly three times a week.
Mobile Meals plans to support the Lions in some of their future projects to show appreciation for their help, she said.
