Mitsubishi Motors South Africa has branched out to the southern suburbs of Cape Town with the opening of its Motor Hub of Tokai. The brand was taken on by Tokai Multifranchise, joining forces with the Renault brand and Motus Select Pre-owned vehicles under one roof.
Mitsubishi’s history is a rich tapestry of innovation, spanning over a century. In 1917, Mitsubishi entered the automotive industry with the launch of its first mass-produced car, the Mitsubishi Model A.
In 1968 Mitsubishi was introduced to the South African market. After 55 years in our country, Mitsubishi continues to thrive, offering reliable vehicles that embody the spirit of adventure and resilience, making it a beloved choice for drivers across South Africa.
The meaning behind the name
Mitsu means three. Hishi means water chestnuts, and the Japanese have used the word for a long time to denote a rhombus or diamond shape. Japanese often bend the “h” sound to a “b” sound when it occurs in the middle of a word, so they pronounce the combination of “mitsu” and “hishi” as Mitsubishi.
The three diamonds in the Mitsubishi logo are a fusion of the founder of Mitsubishi Yataro Iwasaki’s family crest. The Iwasaki family had three core values: Integrity, reliability and success. Each of the three diamonds is representative of those values.
Motus Mitsubishi Tokai has adopted the legacy of the Iwasaki family and vows to uphold the Integrity of our clients, the reliability of the brand and the success of matching the right owner to the right vehicle.
The Mitsubishi brand takes pride in being at the cutting edge of engineering milestones. Some of these include all-wheel control, which continually monitors the road and intelligently transfers power to the wheels that have the most traction which improves handling and safety.
Data analystics company JD Power ranked Mitsubishi among the top 10 brands in its 2023 US Vehicle Dependability Study, indeed, Mitsubishi ranked a spot higher than Toyota in the study
