Fish Hoek Primary School pupil Leah Howell, 12, has been selected for the role of Clara after impressing judges at two auditions with Cape Town City Ballet, said Debbie Lindup, founder and director of the ballet school.
“Dancing the role of Clara with Cape Town City Ballet is a dream come true for Leah, and I couldn’t be prouder of her achievement,” said Ms Lindup.
Leah has performed at both Artscape and the Cape Town Eisteddfod this year.
Kommetjie Primary School pupil Katie Carruthers, 11, has earned the role of a party girl in the production. Katie also participated in two auditions to secure her spot in the ballet and also performed at the Cape Town Eisteddfod and Artscape this year.
Nine-year-old Polly Dopke, a pupil at Imhoff Waldorf School in Kommetjie, will take on the role of one of the Mice. Polly also went through two rounds of auditions.
