Professor Liezille Jacobs launched Rocklands at Exclusive Books Cavendish on Thursday December 5. The title refers to her early years growing up in the suburb of the same name in Mitchell’s Plain. The book is mostly about her struggles to be recognised in her career in psychology not only as a profession but also as a calling. The story spans her life so far from her childhood and community life to study years unlocking memories as triggers warnings and her need for therapy. She went on to become the first woman of colour to take up the reins and become head of the psychology department at the University of the Western Cape.
In conversation with Neziswa Titi, a research psychologist based at the South African Medical Research Council, who said the book makes an important contribution to the field of psychology. Its method is unconventional but carefully considered and it is essential reading for students, academics and families making psychological knowledge more accessible to the general public.
