Call for new volunteers

The South Peninsula’s Emergency Call Centre, which is known as the ECC, is facing certain closure unless it is able to sign up new volunteers. The ECC is a non-profit organisation which has served the far south areas for 19 years and is run 24 hours a day by volunteers and is widely used. The volunteers respond to any emergency or request for information phoned in by the public. Whether it be medical emergencies, fire, water leaks, intruders or snakes in your home, these matters are all attended to. But, says human resources representative for the ECC, Bianca Bresler: The ECC needs your help. “Some of our volunteers have moved away, become unwell or have taken on fresh commitments. We are looking for new volunteers to join our team to keep this service to our community going.” If you can spare just two hours a week and feel this would be a great way to support your community, contact the ECC’s training co-ordinator, Barbara Foster, on 021 782 0333 or 083 425 9016.
