More than 60 members of the Fish Hoek Lifesaving Club will be participating in the 2022 DHL Lifesaving National Club Championships in Gqeberha this week.
The championships started on Sunday and run until Saturday March 26.
The team includes nippers, junior and senior competitors, and has been preparing for the championships for the past few months. The club recently took second place at the Western Cape Championship held at Clifton 4th Beach.
Fish Hoek Lifesaving Club captain Cheyne Haupt said that while the Clifton team had been the overall winner, Fish Hoek had “given them a run for their money”, coming in at a “very close second”, and the victor and victrix ladorum trophies for the under-15, under-17 and seniors had gone to Fish Hoek.
The nippers, she said, performed just as well at the same competition walking away with medals in all the age groups – including several golds.
“We are extremely proud of our nippers who are coming up through the ranks at the club and are showing what they are capable of. We are a team to be reckoned with and look forward to SA champs,” said nipper officer Nikki Mocke.
Ms Haupt said: “We are excited about SA champs, where we will be fighting for top spots in the senior, junior, and nipper competition.”
The team is sponsored by a variety of Fish Hoek businesses.
