In a bid to boost crucial blood supply stocks during the festive season, the Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) together with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), will this coming weekend host their Red Saturday blood donation campaign on Saturday November 30.
According to a press statement released by the Western Cape Blood Service, this campaign aims to collect at least 5 000 units of blood to help alleviate the added pressure on the blood supply over the busy festive period.
Michelle Vermeulen, Head of Marketing and Public Relations at the WCBS, says: “By donating one unit of blood, you get to save up to three lives.”
On Saturday November 30, the WCBS will set up blood donation facilities at 12 participating shopping malls across the Western Cape, in the hopes of collecting 1200 units of blood and welcoming at least 300 new donors within the Western Cape.
Donors must be between 16 and 75 years old, weigh 50kg or more, be in good general health, and lead a safe sexual lifestyle.
