Parking attendants who are part of the Simon’s Town Community Police Forum’s parking attendant programme are sporting new vests.
The forum and the Simon’s Town Business Association are helping street people to find a roof over their heads and reintegrate into society through the programme.
The forum’s chairman, Andrew Rogers, advised the public not to tip or feed “rogue” car guards but rather support those wearing custom-made vests with blue on the top and yellow on the bottom. The vests, he said, should display an identity card with the attendant’s photo and a number that matched one on the back of the vest.
“It has taken some time, but the new custom-made bibs have been made and the parking attendants are looking great,” said Mr Rogers.
The vests were allocated to one person and could not be used by someone else, he said.
“This makes them easily identifiable as to who is on the programme,” he said, adding that signs in shops had information about the programme, advising the public that “parking in town is free” and not to tip attendants more than R10.
