Greenwood Athletic will meet Vasco da Gama on Saturday for a place in the Nedbank Cup last round of 32.
Greenwood emerged victorious from the Western Cape Third Division play-offs played at the Rooikrans sports ground in Grassy Park at the weekend and will now take on the provincial ABC Motsepe winners Vasco da Gama.
The winner of this match, which is scheduled to be played at the Solo Street sports ground on Saturday (3pm), will join the 16 teams from the Premier League (PSL) and eight of National First Division (NFD) in the national tournament.
Vasco earlier this season won promotion to the provincial Second division and is presently in fourth place on the Group A table with seven points from three games.
Lionel Miller, coach of Greenwood, paid tribute to his players and club officials for working hard to make this team successful. “It is just not about me, it’s about the collective. This is a short turnaround and we will be up to the challenge come Saturday. It will be a great test for us and on the day it is about the side who takes their chances,” said Miller.
His side beat Standards from the Overberg region 3-0 with goals in the final coming from Denzil Lewis, Toufik Lewin and Aldrich Viljoen. Lewis also netted the winner in his side’s 1-0 win over Stars FC Prince Albert, the Central Karoo representative side.
