If the performances displayed this early in their careers are any indication, the future is bright for the fighters who were on the card at an event hosted by Insane Boxing Promotions over the weekend in Ottery.
Two of the most exciting prospects in the sport, Asekho Nocele and Khaya Mlata, were rewarded with Western Cape boxing titles after their impressive stoppage wins.
For those who have followed their sterling amateur careers, it’s clear that their transition to the professional ranks has been nothing short of spectacular.
Judging by their recent performances, these titles may be the first in a long list of accolades.
The trajectory of their boxing careers is even more thrilling when considering the steep and demanding road to the top of the boxing ladder.
Speaking after their recent victories in the Savva Savas promoted event, both fighters emphasised the importance of staying humble and respecting their craft as the key to achieving their dreams.
Nocele, now boasting a record of 5-0-0, spoke about his journey so far, saying to those not fortunate enough to have seen me in the ring yet, expect to witness a complete fighter who can do pretty much anything in the squared circle.
He acknowledged that the more he fights, the more he grows, and he views this stage as just the beginning.
“I believe I am going places. I just got to stay humble and dedicated,” he added.
Crowned the best bantamweight in the province, Nocele sees this achievement as the start of a sweet dream that will one day culminate in a world title.
“It feels great, man. It’s like a dream come true. The plan is to become a world champ one day, and it has to start here. So it feels like another step closer to where I want to be,” he said.
Similarly, Mlata emphasised the importance of maintaining focus and keeping the bigger picture in mind to reach the heights he aims for.
A junior featherweight with a record of 5-0-0, Mlata is ready for the grind and eager to face all challenges head-on.
His immediate goal is now set on securing the SA title. “There’s a lot to expect, and it’s all about hard work,” Mlata said.
Their victories over the weekend were not just about the titles but also about the lessons learned and the experience gained for the Pride Fighting Academy and Blood Sweat and Tears trained boxers.
Both Nocele and Mlata displayed not only their physical prowess but also their mental fortitude and strategic acumen. They got their stoppage victories against Mbulelo Gabula and Sanele Magwaza, respectively.
The rest of the fight card saw Avuyile Limkwana from South Paw Gym defeat Sibulele Madolo from Hillbrow Boxing Gym on points; PFA’s Dillon Solomon was back in the win column with a decision win against Ring Master’s Cedric Nsendula; South Paw’s Sikelela Xhathasi got the job done against Atlantis Boxing Club’s Loyiso Basayi; opening the card was a decision win for Junxion’s Benathi Yamile against Grass Roots’ Marco de Koker.
