Award-recipients at the Festival of Bridge at the Bridge Centre in Green Point.

Bridge players from all over South Africa gathered for the annual face-to-face Festival of Bridge at the Bridge Centre in Green Point at the end of last year.

The Western Cape Bridge Union timed the event to coincide with “swallows” returning to roost for summer in the Mother City.

Fourteen teams of four players vied for the ultimate trick-taking card game followed by 46 pairs.

The event culminated with lunch and prize-giving, including the presentation of the Tim Cope Cup to Shirley Kaminer in recognition for her service to bridge.

The former Observatory bridge player, Tim Cope, who presented the award himself, has been added to the South African Bridge Federation Bridge Hall of Honour in recognition of what he has achieved for bridge over many years.

Western Cape Bridge Union committee member Shirley Kaminer received the Tim Cope Cup in recognition of her service to bridge from the former Observatory bridge player, Tim Cope.

Craig Gower and Brian Pincus won the pairs trophy, with Leif Stabell and Omphemetse Moedi taking second and father son duo Alon and Aras Apteker taking third.
