Glossy lips overtook regular lipstick in 2024, but balms are now in contention for the win in 2025, especially given the romantic (and forgiving) finish they can create. “I think we’ll be seeing less emphasis on defined lip liner and more of that ‘bitten lip’ look inspired by Korean and French beauty trends,” notes top makeup artist (and the talent responsible for popularising trends like the latte makeup look), Tanielle Jai. “It’s a soft, blurred, just-kissed, lived-in matte style that feels effortless.

Products like Violette_FR’s Bisou Balm perfectly embody this vibe, with a natural matte finish that’s still hydrating. Picture the makeup of a ‘90s rom-com female lead — the lips have a subtle flush that looks natural yet still gives a pouty, blurred effect," she adds. But don’t ditch your lip combos just yet. “On the other side, lip liner will not be dying out,” Tanielle hastens to add. “We will see more launches of Long lasting lip liners with an emphasis on longevity and staying power,” she predicts.

In case you missed it, Mocha Mousse was declared the shade of 2025 by Pantone and we're not entirely surprised. It follows in the footsteps of a growing fascination for all things brown, bronze and beige. In 2023, latte makeup popped off in a big way. In 2024 it got even richer with espresso tones featuring heavily in our OOTDs, manis and makeup looks and in 2025 it's still going strong. “I think we will see mocha mousse in a lot more of our products in 2025,” says Tanielle – everything from blushers to bronzers, eyeshadows and lip shades.
Over the past couple of seasons we've seen contrast makeup and colour seasons take off, and we'll see more similar movements that focus on individuality. "I just love seeing people embrace their own personal colour palette. The idea of taking a "trend" and adapting it to your colour season means that you can still make it personal," explains Tanielle. So, head to TikTok to work out if you're a “true autumn” or a “soft summer” or whether you're high, medium or low contrast.

The upper lash gets all the attention when it comes to eyeshadow and liner, but the spotlight is dropping south for 2025. “I think we will be playful with eyeliner placements, specifically under the eye,” notes Tanielle. “We may see more smudgy moments, colourful accents, or shimmering details. It’s a playful way to add intrigue to an otherwise minimal look. Personally I’ve become more experimental with the lower lash line and I’m seeing this start to really trend throughout social media,” she says.

We predicted glazed blush would headline 2024 and we were bang on. Now, the look is set to continue through 2025 with a couple of extra tweaks. “I think we will see the resurgence of highlighters but more of a blush-highlighter hybrid. Possibly even an all over bronze, blush, highlighter hybrid,” says Tanielle. As for shades? “I think we will see a lot more of those beige, peachy-brown, deep terracotta tones on our cheeks and eyes,” Tanielle predicts. “We’ve already seen beige blush really hit the scene and I think we may see more of that,” she adds.

A forever trend that's going nowhere is healthy looking complexions. In 2025, we'll remain just as committed to dewiness and natural finishes. “Hydrated skin will always be in and I think people are becoming more educated about what texture suits their skin type and choosing the right textures depending on the season we are in,” says Tanielle. “Skin tints are really becoming a staple in our makeup bags and I think we will see more versions of those lightweight wearable formulas throughout the year,” she reckons.
Lastly, nike tick brows at out, alongside over-styling. For 2025, brows will be “less laminated and more straight-structured,” forecasts Tanielle. “I’m not talking about the 2016 wow brow, it's more subtly structured – so filling in the gaps where needed. And, instead of brushing brows up, we may see more of the hairs brushed to the side. The 2025 brow is more straight then curved. The tail end of the brow will be lifted rather than curving down,” says Tanielle.
