The news of veteran actress and TV star, Connie Chiume’s death was confirmed by her family on Tuesday via the actress’s official social pages.

Dated 6 August 2024, the statement read as follows, “The Chiume family regrets to inform you of the passing of the International acclaimed award winning Actress, Connie Chiume. Connie Chiume 72, passed on at Garden City Hospital today on 6th August 2024. The family asks for privacy during this difficult period. The family will communicate further details.”

Chiume’s acting career spanned well over 45 years landing her roles in various film and TV shows such as international blockbuster, Black Panther, critically acclaimed musical, Black is King and popular South African drama series, Gomora.

The legendary actress has collected multiple accolades over the years including the Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilège Lifetime Achievement Award (LAA) at GQ Men of The Year Awards 2022, celebrating her contribution to the art and honouring her as one of the best talents South Africa has ever produced.

She was involved in multiple community projects, serving as the chairperson for the Centre of Africa Social Capital Development and deputy president of PAWE - Performing Arts Workers Equity.
