The new Range Rover shoots beyond its luxury comparisons
Often described as the S-Class of luxury SUVs, the latest generation of JLR's opulent Range Rover aims to shoot far beyond this comparison.

You’d be forgiven for thinking not much has changed, but delve a bit deeper and you’ll quickly discover a whole new package. So what’s changed exactly?
It rides on Land Rover’s updated MLA-Flex platform meaning for the first time customers can have their Range Rover with seven seats – that’s if you opt for the luxe long-wheelbase version. On the outside, LR has smoothed out the creases of the previous model to create a slinky new silhouette with a drag coefficient of just 0.30.
The Range Rover’s slippery shape goes swimmingly with a collection of new electrified engines – the spotlight being placed on the P510e, a plug-in hybrid with a potent 375kW on offer. As is inevitable, a fully-electric Range Rover is expected to launch in 2024.
Step inside the Bentley-rivalling interior and you’ll soon realise where most of the budget was spent. Feast your eyes on a 13.1-inch touchscreen infotainment screen and a crystal clear 13.7-inch digital instrument cluster, all ensconced in swathes of leather. Audiophiles rejoice as the Range Rover features a 35-speaker, 1600-watt Meridian Signature Sound System on the Autobiography trim.
Speaking of, expect the usual SE, HSE, Autobiography and SV trim levels, the latter being the range-topper. The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover will be going on sale before the year-end with a price tag close to R3 million. The S-Class doesn’t come cheap, so why would this be any different?
