Offering a cheaper electric XC40 Recharge will be Volvo’s best decision yet
Cheaper does not necessarily mean worse. In the case of the Volvo XC40 Recharge, it actually makes complete sense. The Swedish car brand recently launched a more affordable version of the ultra chic, ultra electric XC40 Recharge – and we love a bargain!
Arriving a few months after the more expensive P8 derivative, the XC40 P6 offers slightly less power and eschews all-wheel drive, yet – thankfully – doesn’t skimp on the aesthetics.
Since its launch back in 2017 we’ve been big fans of Volvo’s smallest SUV. Its compact shape and Scandi styling have seen it age quite gracefully. To keep the Volvo XC40 competitive it was recently given a tidy nip-and-tuck; the biggest changes being reshaped headlights and bumpers, and a swanky new Google-based infotainment system.
Speaking of, the new system offers lightning fast responsiveness with almost zero lag. It makes us question why other car brands spend billions developing their own in-car tech when Google is right there. The only issue is the inability to support Apple Carplay… A software issue or just plain pettiness? We’ll never know, but a solution is supposedly on the way.
What’s not a joke is the power on tap. Despite being the less powerful Recharge model, there is no denying that 170kW is more than enough. We dare say the XC40 P8 might offer too much oomph for such a small crossover to handle, but if you like blistering speed and have deep pockets, we won’t judge!
With oodles of space, a claimed 423km of range, and a smaller price tag to boot, the Volvo XC40 P6 Recharge is the pick of the electric bunch.
