Do you have a spare R125 million lying around, burning a hole in your pocket? Me neither, but something rather interesting popped up on American real-estate marketplace Zillow.
This gorgeous Beverly Hills mansion recently got listed for the first time in 60 years. Big whoop, right? Wrong! This is probably the greatest mid-century modern we’ve seen in quite some time.
To the uninitiated, mid-century modern (MCM) is an American design movement that was supremely popular between 1945 and 1969. The craze impacted everything from interiors, product and graphic design to architecture and urban development.

MCM architecture style was particularly characterised by clean lines, muted curves, a lack of ornamentation, large windows, interior design based in functionality, and open floor plans intent on making indoor and outdoor living spaces complement each other.
Nowhere is this more evident than this luscious abode. Hidden behind verdant shrubbery, the slanted roofline hides gigantic windows offering the residents unobstructed views. The open floor plan also shows a design trend that has yet to end – and hopefully never will.
Check out the funky interior that doesn’t look like it's been updated since the mid 1900s, but in a tasteful way rather than grody. With textured carpets, acres of varnished wood, and a colour palette that’s eye-sizzling, we’re utterly obsessed. It’s not surprising that this beauty hasn’t been listed in over 60 years. Who would want to let this slip out of their fingers?
Whoever the lucky next owner is, we hope they don’t change a thing. This Beverly Hills mansion is an ode to MCM, a veritable museum that you could live in and experience every day. Architecture is an artform and preserving it is as crucial as ever – let’s hope these timeless classics continue unaltered ad infinitum.
