Keeping the vibe high were musicians Matt Kruger and Warrren Tutu, of the band Kruger & Tutu. Matt, who is a French, English and Afrikaans songwriter and musician, and Warren is a guitarist, singer, music teacher and drummer. Check out next week’s Bolander for a write-up on this dynamic duo, who will be performing at Daisy Jones, Summerhill Wines, Stellenbosch, on Saturday August 24.
Bolander headed out on a wild and wet Saturday to attend the Muratie Retro Rouge Festival, on the far side of Stellenbosch towards Paarl, where guests and visitors to this historic estate were assembled in their wonderfully-snug Canvas Venue, kept warm by all the gas heaters, and good food, music and wine.
The victuals on hand were hamburgers, vetkoek stuffed with curried mince, samoosas, home-made brownies, barista coffees and, of course, all the vintages on offer by estate (including some older ones with marvellous labels.
Owner Rijk Melck spent time mingling and chatting to guests, accompanied by his faithful old German Shepherd, Saartjie... and if anyone is interested in the history of this exceptional estate, he leads regular tours and historic talks, after which guests can enjoy a hearty meal in the restaurant.
