The annual charity swim in the icy waters of the Radisson RED Cape Town’s rooftop pool takes place on Saturday June 29, from 9am to 2pm.
The goal is to collect and donate 200 blankets to the 9Miles Project, a youth-based non-profit organisation.
Liam Desfountain, coach and team lead of learning and development at Radisson RED, said the goal was to swim 400 laps, but the donation of blankets does not depend on the number of laps completed, and anyone can bring a blanket to donate even if they don’t swim.
After each swim, participants will be warmed up with a hot cup of coffee and some snacks. The hotel is at the Silo District in the V&A Waterfront.
Participants are also encouraged to take second-hand wetsuits and surfboards, which will be donated to the 9Miles Project’s youth programme.
“Bring a blanket, take the plunge into our rooftop pool, and come help us wrap Cape Town in warmth this winter,” says Ms Desfountain.
