Amid its recent 2025 price increase, DStv has announced that it is adding five new channels to its DStv Compact customers.

The company recently announced that it will increase its monthly packages for customers due to the recent VAT increase - most packages have also increased by either R50, R40 or R10.

DStv Compact Plus is now up by R40, which means that customers will now be paying R659 from R619.

For DStv Compact, the price went up by R10, which moved the price from R469 to R479.

Here’s a list of the new channels coming to your TV screens this April:

SuperSport Action (channel 210)

This channel brings you Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) content such as UFC and EFC, SuperSport Action which also includes international and local boxing, WWE, Adrenaline Sports as well as UCI Cycling.

This adds to DStv Compact’s sports offering, which already includes six SuperSport and two ESPN channels.

Africa Magic Showcase (channel 151)

CBS Justice (channel 170)

This channel gives you compelling true-crime documentaries and series that delves deep into the facts to uncover the truth. It also features fascinating cases to viewers, presented and investigated by experts. 

Curiosity Channel (channel 185)

History Channel (channel 186)

As a history lover, you’ll love this channel which brings you content that includes factual series and specials that wrap historical knowledge in entertainment.

"Independent Media Lifestyle" contacted DStv's head of PR and Communications, Laura Cooke, to provide clarification on the recent price increase and the new channels being added to the DStv Compact package.

"There is no direct relationship between the new channels and upcoming price increase, which is calculated using a variety of metrics, of which content is just one.

"However, Multichoice is aware of the economic pressures facing our customers and wants to provide as much value as possible, which is why we decided to add five exciting new channels to DStv Compact," Cooke said.

Since DStv Compact already offers channels that have similar content, how different are these channels?

Cooke said: "The new DStv Compact channels launching on April 1 provide unique content not currently available on DStv Compact. While different channels may focus on a single genre, each delivers a different perspective and content line-up."

She clarified that customers are not paying for repetitive content since the new channels are bringing new content and new perspectives.

The five channels will be added on Tuesday, April 1, which is the same day that the price adjustments take effect.
