Fish Hoek Athletics Club (FHAC) member Moira Harding, 54, is recovering in an Umhlanga hospital after being taken off a ventilator on Tuesday.

Earlier this week, the Echo reported that Ms Harding was in a critical condition in ICU after she had wandered off and gone missing after completing the Comrades Marathon on Sunday, June 8, (“Comrades Marathon: Fish Hoek runner in critical condition after mysterious disappearance,” Echo June 10).

A missing persons report was filed, prompting a full-scale search. She was found early on Monday morning, severely dehydrated and in a critical condition.

FHAC clubhouse manager Andre Blom said Ms Harding faces a long road to recovery and said updates about her condition will be shared by the club “as soon as possible” as the club wanted to give the family privacy and space.

Mr Blom thanked the running fraternity for their support and said Ms Harding was strong.

"With support from her family and the running community, she will be back home soon," he said.

Following her disappearance after completing the race at 5pm on Sunday, Ms Harding was found the next day near the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) in Durban’s Point Waterfront area.

Police in KwaZulu-Natal are still investigating the circumstances that led to her disappearance.
