Lucresia Harrison has been appointed as the new principal of Simon’s Town School, a combined school catering to learners from Grade R to Grade 12.
Ms Harrison has been part of Simon’s Town School for 24 years, starting her career as a teacher of Life Sciences and Natural Sciences.
She went on to serve as departmental head from 2003 to 2018, acting deputy principal from 2019 to 2022, and most recently as acting principal from 2023 until her permanent appointment.
She continues to teach Grade 12 Life Sciences alongside her leadership duties.
The school governing body said it had full confidence in her leadership.
“Ms Harrison’s extensive experience, proven leadership, and steadfast commitment to Simon’s Town School position her uniquely to guide the institution into its next phase of growth and achievement. We look forward to her continued contribution in ensuring that Simon’s Town School remains a centre of educational excellence.”
Speaking about her appointment, Ms Harrison said she was “truly thankful” for the opportunity.
“It is an honour to have earned the trust of the school governing body and the Western Cape Education Department,” she said.
“My vision for Simon’s Town School is to cultivate a positive and inclusive learning environment where every student feels appreciated and motivated to pursue excellence. I am dedicated to promoting a culture of teamwork, creativity, and high academic standards.”
“I look forward to working with the entire school community – teachers, staff, learners, and parents – to enhance our strengths and tackle any challenges we may face,” Ms Harrison said.
“Together, we can accomplish remarkable things for our students.”
Looking ahead, she added: “I want to foster an environment where collaboration and innovation flourish, helping every student reach their full potential.”
