Local nature enthusiasts have the chance to learn about the reptiles and amphibians of the Cape Peninsula at a special talk hosted at Welcome Glen Farmhouse in Glencairn.

The event, part of the SmallTalX series, will take place on Thursday, October 16, at 6.30pm.

It will be presented by herpetologist Tyrone Ping, who has spent nearly 20 years documenting and photographing reptiles across South Africa.

He is the author of two field guides, dozens of scientific papers, and has built one of the country’s most comprehensive photographic collections showcasing reptile diversity.

Mr Ping also runs a popular YouTube channel focusing on local reptiles and snake removals, and offers guided tours to observe reptiles in their natural habitats.

During the talk, he will cover snakes, lizards, and frogs of the region, explaining the differences between venomous and non-venomous snakes, highlighting rare reptiles, and discussing threats to their survival. He will also explain how the public can help support local conservation efforts.
