More law enforcement needed on Fish Hoek Beach

Letter to the Editor|Published 2 years ago

Jenni Elliott, Fish Hoek

The beach is becoming very popular, especially on the weekends, but there doesn’t appear to be any law enforcement on the weekends, and during the week there seems to be an early exit around 3.30pm.

The concerns are dogs not keeping to the dog beach, loud music, tents and gazebos put up, cycling and skateboards on Jager’s walk and homeless people sleeping on the grassed area near the fence early on Saturdays or Sundays.

Who gives the “car guards” permission to be there? Some are very aggressive if payment is not given.

• City Law Enforcement spokesman Wayne Dyason responds:

The City’s Law Enforcement department deploys officers to the Fish Hoek beach area on a daily basis. However, limited resources mean residents and visitors will not see an officer everywhere all the time.

We attend daily to complaints from Fish Hoek and surrounding areas.

With the launch of the City’s festive season plan, more resources will be allocated to the Fish Hoek Beach.

The Fish Hoek Beach Law Enforcement office is open daily between 8am and 5pm and the hours will be extended for the festive season.

The office is next to the lifeguard office.
