Tony Nicholas, chairman South African Training Ship General Botha Old Boys' Association
On Saturday February 17, a sea cadet was injured due to fishermen fishing off the jetty and neglecting to remove their waste fishing line from the Zandvlei Nature Reserve.
This fishing line was wrapped around his ankles during water training and could have cut off circulation to his feet.
TS Woltemade first aid members where quick in response to cut and free him from this line.
Please, members of the community, our water body is a protected water body and we are all allowed to use this area for recreation.
However, it is your duty to keep it clean and safe to prevent injuries from occurring in the future. Our sea scouts and sea cadets use the water body to train, and this type of waste poses a great threat to their lives.
