Nothing screams opulence like gold ornamentation and leopard print furniture, right? Well, if your surname is Trump I guess you’d agree.
Cringe aside, this huge NYC townhouse recently got listed for the hefty sum of $26.5 million. Ivana Trump (or her ex husband) purchased the property in 1992 for $2.5 million, and proceeded to absolutely destroy it stylistically. A pastime shared between the Trumps, apparently.
Built in 1878, the abode consists of six stories, six bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms. The townhouse even boasts such luxuries like an elevator, sauna, two kitchens, and a garden – the latter being a true luxury in cramped NYC. So far so good.
Located in the swanky Lenox Hill neighbourhood of Manhattan, even the outside facia conveys a sense of money. One could easily imagine skipping through the steaming piles of garbage in a sort of Sex and the City-like state of delusion.

Once you step into the foyer, however, that Carrie Bradshaw dream gets popped like a sewer rat under a yellow taxi’s front tire. Am I being a bit much? So is this interior, so forgive my exaggeration.
I’m not saying we at H&G dislike maximalism, we just don’t like whatever this is. There are lavish, yet excessive finishes throughout the Palace of Versaille-inspired property, including a collection of crystal chandeliers, silk wallpaper, and gold-embossed fireplaces.
If your overstimulated self manages to make it to the third floor, you’ll find the expansive main bedroom suite complete with three – admittedly gorgeous – French doors leading onto a private terrace.
However, the magic really happens in the ensuite bathroom. Featuring acres of pink onyx marble and gold accoutrements, I can’t help but laugh at the absurdity.
On the same floor and across from the main bedroom is a private home office and library featuring the previously mentioned leopard print furniture and an onyx fireplace. The remaining floors of the townhouse feature guest bedrooms and even staff quarters, because naturally.
The luxurious property is officially on the market just four months after Ivana’s tragic death in July at the age of 73. The New York City’s Examiner’s Office confirmed she died from falling down the stairs in her home, succumbing to blunt force injuries. Her death was ruled as an accident.
So, if you don’t mind the ghost of a rich old lady nagging you in the early hours of the morning, then this townhouse looks promising. The next owner will most likely spend the same amount of money renovating and redecorating the space, but that was a given from the start. RIP Ivana and her questionable taste.
