Misha Levin Transforms a Drab Kitchen into a Dreamy Coastal Retreat
Content creator and DIY enthusiast (and brow connoisseur!) Misha Levin seems to have home renovation imprinted in her DNA. For years, her followers have been captivated by her social media channels, where every project is seemingly effortless. That same touch of ease and intention was applied to the renovation of her home in the tranquil coastal town of Hermanus.
For over two years, this serene space has served as a retreat not only for Levin and her family but also for holiday renters. With the kitchen as the heart of the home, the design needed to be both practical and beautiful. However, Levin faced two main challenges: limited space and an outdated aesthetic that lacked warmth and character.
The result is a kitchen that feels open, airy and thoughtfully curated. Levin embraced a cohesive palette of soft whites and oatmeal tones, layering natural textures to add depth and interest. The original sea of one-dimensional cream hues gave way to a more tactile and inviting space, with zellige tiles featuring a subtle pink tint adding texture to the backsplash. Warm wooden open shelving replaced traditional upper cabinets, creating an airy and uncluttered feel, while brass fixtures added a touch of understated luxury.
The island, topped with Caesarstone’s Cloudburst Concrete, serves as a seamless transition between the kitchen and dining area, creating an inviting space for casual gatherings and social interaction. This sense of connection is further enhanced by the addition of a large gas strut window, which floods the kitchen with natural light and opens directly onto the pool deck, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor living — a hallmark of coastal design.
Every detail was carefully considered, from the minimalist double basin to the brass hardware, ensuring the space was both functional and beautiful. Levin’s approach — intentional yet effortless — has transformed this once-dated kitchen into a sanctuary that reflects the Hermanus lifestyle: relaxed, stylish and wholeheartedly homely.
