LOOK: Mzansi stars dressed to impress at the ‘Queen Modjadji’ premiere

SOUTH Africa’s most anticipated traditional series, “Queen Modjadji”, was launched at Montecasino on Thursday, July 11.

And Mzansi’s A-listers that did show up didn’t disappoint with their looks on the brown carpet.

However, it was disappointing to see many celebrities weren’t in attendance, especially former Miss South Africa title holders Shudufhadzo Musida and Ndavi Nokeri, who are part of the supporting cast.

One would expect them to show up as “Queen Modjadji” as it marks their stepping stone into acting.

Former “Big Brother Mzansi: S’ya Mosha” contestants came out in full swing and made sure to stick to “African Couture Fit For Royalty” theme.

Mich Mazibuko looked dapper in his cocktail of South African traditional attires styled K Moraba and Collective.

Meanwhile, Zintle Mofokeng paid homage to her Sotho culture in a red and black dress with shweshwe prints.

Also representing the Basotho culture was Makhekhe, who looked stylish in the Basotho blanket and hat.

Yolanda Mukondoleli rocked a Ghana print dress by LSJ.

Award-winning actress Lunathi Mampofu wowed in Ezekhetho, a navy blue number that former Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi wore for one of the magazine shoots in 2021.

The cast of “Queen Modjadji” looked regal in their outfits.

Wiseman Zitha, who plays Mamaila, King Mugodo's surviving son, looked like a prince in his Karabo Official Designs custom-made outfit. The actor was ecstatic to be part of the show.

“This is such a big deal to me because I wanted to be part of it so badly — from the time I got the audition brief, I manifested it. I’m elated to have landed this role and cannot believe that I’m part of such a groundbreaking show,” he said.

“This is history in the making. This is the first of its kind — we are the first people to tell a Khelobedu story in the history of South African television. We are giving it our all on set every day and I’m working with amazing people. I am so grateful.”

Candy Tsa Mandebele, who plays Muyahabo, King Mugodo's third wife looked amazing in an orange number by Manyako, an award-winning designer who always dresses her.

Also dressed in Munyako was Keke Mphuthi, a local actress who plays Zipho Buthelezi's wife on “Champions”, and “The Real Housewives of Joburg” star Lethabo Joy, who was the host for the evening.

Makoma Mohale, who plays Queen Modjadji looked exquisite in a blue outfit with traditional beads. She said that she made the beaded crown herself and put the rest of the outfit together by playing around with her wardrobe.

Inspired by real-life events, “Queen Modjadji” is a series that portrays the life of the Balobedu rain queen and all the challenges she faces before she can ascend to the throne and save her people from suffering from drought.
