Meet Hennie Terreblanche, Independent Media’s representative and the potential winner of a Toyota Fortuner GR-S.
Terreblanche was selected as the most suitable candidate among a plethora of entries for the 2025 Fortuner Challenge powered by Quartz Engine Oil.
While at his wife’s biokineticist waiting rooms, a patient suggested that he should enter the challenge.
“I hadn’t heard about the challenge before so I did some research and decided that I’d like to enter. I filled in the application and am honoured to have been chosen to represent Independent Media.”
The 27-year old software engineer is also a CrossFit coach when he’s not busy with his engineering work at an employee welfare company.
Strongest attribute
“I think my biggest attribute is that I’m well rounded and naturally fit although growing up I was rather lazy but I have my wife to thank for the condition I’m in today.”
Four heroes will be teamed up with four contestants from different media houses including Independent Media.
Over two days each team competes in a variety of tough challenges and at the end, points are tallied to see who gets the key to the Fortuner GR-Sport.
“Fortunately I’m very much a team player and I think in a competition like this, that’s more important than individual strengths.”
With cycling forming a large part of the challenge Terreblanche says he has been working hard on that part of his repertoire.
“I’m a fairly strong cyclist but to improve myself I’ve been focusing on technical sessions on my bicycle.
“I’ve also been studying as much as I can about the Fortuner because I have no doubt they’re going to be asking us questions about it,” he said.
Heroes
Each of the four competitors Fortuner Challenge will be teamed up with four different heroes to tackle the tough challenges during the two days of the event.
This year’s heroes are:
Willard Katsande: a former professional footballer and Kaizer Chiefs legend.
Nicole Horwood: an equestrian superstar and one of the best show jumpers that South Africa has ever produced.
Victor Sekekete: the inspirational captain of the Toyota Cheetahs rugby team.
Saood Variawa: a racing driver for the Toyota Gazoo Racing South Africa motorsport team and finished in the top 20 at Dakar. He is also the youngest hero in Fortuner Challenge.
Pairing between the competitors and heroes is done by pulling a name out of a hat.
“I’d love to be with Saood but because I was born in the Free State and I’m also a Cheetahs fan, being paired with Victor would be fantastic,” he said.
Winning the Toyota Fortuner GR-S would be a game-changer for the Terreblanche family.
“It would be absolutely fantastic if I manage to pull it off. We’re expecting a baby and you don’t get any better than the Fortuner as a family car,” he concluded.
