Carlisle Lodge resident Iris Winstanley celebrated her 104th birthday on Tuesday September 13. Ms Winstanley hails from Manchester, England. She married at the age of 19 and was blessed with three daughters, 18 grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. In 1948, at the age of 30, Ms Winstanley and her family moved to Plumstead. She worked as a librarian at the Wynberg library. She moved to Carlisle Lodge in Fish Hoek, four years ago. “She is a dynamic independent woman. She feels very happy, blessed, honoured and lucky to be alive at 104,” said Carlisle Lodge manager Mo Jackson. Ms Winstanley attributes her longevity to eating healthy, taking good care of herself, drinking lots of water and walking often.
