Deon Terry, of Ocean View, has organised a Covid-19 vaccination drive in the neighbourhood. Mr Terry is the head facilitator of the Ocean View Emergency First Aid Responders (EFAR) and a member of Emergency Voluntary Services (EVS).
The provincial government’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will run a vaccine drive in Ocean View on Saturday November 27.
EMS spokeswoman Deanna February said the event was initiated by Ocean View resident Deon Terry who is the head facilitator of the Ocean View Emergency First Aid Responders (EFAR) and a member of Emergency Voluntary Services (EVS).
“The EMS Vaxi Taxi team was invited by the Ocean View Emergency First Aid Responders and Emergency Voluntary Services to do a vaccine drive in Ocean View,” she said
The EMS Vaxi Taxi, a mobile unit, will be set up on the corner of Lyra Road and Europa Way from 9am to 2pm.
Mr Terry said that in addition to the mobile unit, a van would go door-to-door to educate the community about vaccinations.
“Those who agree to be vaccinated will be taken to the pop-up site for their vaccination and dropped off at home afterward,” he said.
Mr Terry said residents could choose between the two-dose Pfizer vaccine or the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
In addition, Ms February said, residents aged 50 and above could use the government’s Vooma Voucher vaccination reward, where anyone who gets vaccinated during the month of November will automatically receive a R100 Vooma Voucher.
The voucher will be sent by SMS on the mobile number you give to get vaccinated and can be redeemed, within 30 days, at any Shoprite, Checkers, or Usave store.
