A 21-day observation operation in Fish Hoek paid off when police arrested a 46-year-old Malawian man allegedly responsible for multiple housebreakings.
Fish Hoek station commander Lieutenant Colonel Jackie Johnson said the purpose of the operation was to apprehend the suspect that was allegedly responsible for several housebreaking and theft cases in the Fish Hoek and Muizenberg dating back to 2018.
Ingiles Katinji appeared in the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday December 14, and faced multiple charges of housebreaking. Police were unable to confirm exactly how many charges he faced.
Lieutenant Colonel Johnson said with the help of detectives, the Crime Prevention Unit, neighbourhood watches, a local security company, the Business Improvement District (BID), the community police forum (CPF), and local residents, he was arrested on the last day of the operation, Sunday December 12, when he was spotted in the area.
He has been linked to five cases in Muizenberg and six cases in Fish Hoek, with the most recent incident having taken place in Fish Hoek in July this year.
Lieutenant Colonel Johnson said she had personally thanked all those involved, for their time and dedication.
“This team effort and partnership is a clear indication that together, SAPS and the community is ensuring a safer and secure environment for Fish Hoek residents and visitors,” she said.
