The Seadog Paddle Series on Fish Hoek Beach has become a Friday night institution during Cape Town’s summer months. Co-founded in 2009 by Fish Hoek Lifesaving Club members Dawid and Nikki Mocke, pictured, and later run by fellow member Craig Flanagan, this local club fund-raiser has an international following of paddlers. “From the outset, we wanted to create an event that would foster and celebrate community and consistency, grit and determination, while also helping develop ocean skills, in the relative safety, albeit sometimes wild waters of Fish Hoek bay,” said Mr Mocke. The races happen between October and March on Fish Hoek Beach, and from 2023 will also be held on other beaches around Cape Town and South Africa.
