Sanitary pad initiative

The team from Simonstown.com, a non-profit website funded by the businesses listed on the site to promote tourism, and the South African Navy Band handed over sanitary towels to Simon’s Town School on Wednesday, August 3 to supply 30 pupils for the next six months. The handover was followed by a performance by the South African Navy Band and ended with a performance by the Maritime Academy Choir. The initiative was the brainchild of South African Navy Band director of music, Commander Lindela Madikizela.Steph Mellor from Simonstown.com said: “We sincerely thank Commander Madikizela and the Navy Band as well as Simon’s Town School principal, Lee Hoffman, and deputy principal Lucresia Harrison, for facilitating this heartwarming event, and all those who so generously contributed and collected sanitary pads.” Pictured, from left, are, the team of volunteers involved in the sanitary pad drive, Simon’s Town Museum representative Tazneem Wentzel, South African Navy Ban manager Riekus Besler, South African Navy Band music director Commander Madikizela, Bay Primary School representative Chantal Benadie, Simonstown.com’s Esther Le Roux, owner of a local pharmacy Patricia Inggs, local business owner Louise Patterson and Steph Mellor from simonstown.com in the front.
