Non-profit organisation Joy of Cape Town Community Development, donated Christmas clothes to more than 70 children from Phoenix and Joe Slovo Park on Saturday December 17.
A Kuils River non-profit organisation donated Christmas clothes to more than 70 needy children from Phoenix and Joe Slovo Park in Milnerton on Saturday December 17.
The organisation’s deputy chairman, Themba Mazwi, said they met with Ward 4 councillor Anthony Benadie and his assistant first, and told them about their desire to help children in the Phoenix and Joe Slovo Park areas.
Mr Mazwi said they were referred to a local community worker, Amanda Ramzam Kemp, who helped them identify kids in need of Christmas clothes.
Ms Kemp said she has been serving the community of Phoenix and Joe Slovo Park for 28 years, helping single mothers, teenagers, children and the elderly.
Mr Mazwi said his organisation donated Christmas clothes to youngsters aged one to 20 years old.
He said that one of their objectives is to assist and develop underprivileged communities, particularly in Joe Slovo Park and Phoenix.
“Our primary goal is to assist with food, education, clothes, training and development, drug rehabilitation, coaching and mentoring the youth and young kids,” said Mr Mazwi.
He called on residents and businesses to donate stationery and school uniforms for girls and boys, including white short- and long-sleeved shirts, grey shorts and pants, as well as black school shoes. He added that they would be assisting children from Phoenix and Joe Slovo Park who go to Sinenjongo High School and Marconi Beam Primary School.
Items may be dropped off at Inospace Island Workshops, 23 Milner Street, Paarden Eiland, Cape Town. Or call Themba Mazwi on 084 812 2002.
