The Muizenberg Historical Conservation Society will host its annual “Rhodeshow” in commemoration of the death of Cecil John Rhodes on Sunday March 26, from 10am to 4pm, at the Rhodes Cottage Museum, 246 Main Road, Muizenberg. Professor Mike Burton will give an illustrated talk about the history of the bicycle at 11am followed by a lunch of cold roast lamb and champagne in the museum’s courtyard. It was Rhode’s favourite meal and will be prepared by the society’s chairman, Glenn Babb. Paul Myson, an internationally renowned antique expert, will also be available from 10am to assess any historical items, glassware, jewellery, porcelain, books, and any other items. Mr Babb said this was a “great success” last year as a member discovered that a jewellery item was valued at €300 000. In addition, the Rhodes Cottage Tea Room will introduce its new roast chicken lunch special for R65.
