Leliebloem House in Crawford cares for 60 children from the age of 5 to 18.
Leliebloem House Child and Youth Care Centre in Crawford says it runs at a loss of R300 000 every month, and, as part of its 155th anniversary celebration, the home is appealing to the public to support an upcoming fund-raiser.
Carla Stewart, the marketing manager at Leliebloem, said the institution had been chosen by R Miller Attorneys as a beneficiary at the firm’s black-tie Youth Day event at Pigalle Restaurant, in Green Point, on Thursday June 15.
She said caring for 60 children came with huge financial obligations and the rising costs of food, transport, and municipal accounts, among others, made it even more difficult. Government had also cut back on subsidies, she added.
“This auspicious event is in honour of the many lives that we have impacted over the course of 155 years and in celebration of a mission that is the third oldest children’s home in the Western Cape. The deficit on the monthly running costs has been our biggest hurdle that we face, and therefore this fund-raiser is vital to bridge the ever-growing shortfall which we continuously encounter,” she said.
Tickets are R950 and can be bought online at Webtickets or at Pick n Pay. They include a four-course dinner, with performances from Robin P, Don Vino Prins, Mujahid George, Berry, and Sayde, with Devon Saunders as the master of ceremonies.
