At the age of 88, Shirley Malin, bids farewell to Cape Dutch Nursery after 18 years of service. Ms Malin, who joined the nursery as a sales assistant at the sprightly age of 70, celebrated her last day there on Thursday August 25. She moved to Fish Hoek 22 years ago and took an unexpected journey when she answered an advertisement at the nursery for a sales assistant. "Working here for the past 18 years has been such a great learning experience. I never once woke up and dreaded coming to work. I loved my job. These have been some of the happiest times," Ms Malin said. Her past colleague, Rose Polkey, said she had enjoyed working with Ms Malin whom she described as “a naturally a curious person”. The nursery’s owner, Robyn Mason, said it had been “a breath of fresh air” working with Ms Malin. “She has a lot of friends here, and she will be missed by everyone.” Someone else will now have have to honour Ms Malin’s weekly tradition of bringing biscuits for her colleagues every Friday.
