Three long-standing friends, and colleagues at the former False Bay Volunteer Ambulance Service, from left, Allan James, Clarence Naude, and Cecil Antonals, had a reunion at a Muizenberg restaurant on Tuesday November 21. In the mid-1990s, the three volunteered for the ambulance service, which responded to calls from False Bay Hospital. The hospital was the base of operations for emergency calls under the coordination of the Metro Ambulance control centre. They covered an area that stretched as far as Retreat, Cape Point and Hout Bay. Mr Naude is now an ambulance assistant with St John Ambulance Service in New Zealand, Mr Antonals is a retired Red Cross training manager and Mr James a retired South African Navy/Armscor training manager.
