Watch honours firefighters

Staff Reporter|Published

The Risiview community gathered on Tuesday January 23 to thank the firefighters who battled recent fires in the far south. The event was organised by the Risiview Neighbourhood Watch whose coordinator, Linzi Malloch, said the fires had posed a significant threat to both lives and property. “However, the unwavering dedication and courage of the firefighters ensured that the community remained safe amidst the chaos. Their selflessness and commitment to protecting others were truly commendable." The residents shared food and drink with the firefighters and blew vuvuzelas and anything else that made a noise in a homage reminiscent of the one shown to health-care workers during the Covid-19 pandemic.

City of Cape Town speaker Felicity Purchase spoke at the event about the importance of community unity during challenging times and thanked the firefighters for their courage.
