Kathy Desaunois and her husband, Wally.
A former Fish Hoek Lion and charity worker, Kathy Desaunois, 76, who died in Surrey in the UK on Sunday February 4, will be remembered for her willingness to help others, say those who knew her.
“Nothing was ever too big for my mom; she loved helping others," said her daughter, Donne Wright.
Originally from Johannesburg, Ms Desaunois and her husband, Wally, moved to Fish Hoek in 1973 where they lived for 47 years.
Ms Desaunois had one brother, Dudley Bernicchi, and three half-siblings, Jenny Katz, Alan Bernicchi and Lew Horsten.
Ms Wright said her mother had loved walking and had joined a walking group just before Covid. She had also doted on her granddaughter, Hannah, and “GG”, as Hannah called her, would drop everything to be there for her, whether it was playing dress-up or dancing.
Ms Desaunois was part of TocH, a small community charity group, for more than 15 years. She and her husband were also members of the Lions Club in Fish Hoek and Tokai at different times, and they continued their charity work while living in the UK.
Former Lions president Sue Kinnell said: “Kathy was a special lady; always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone. She had strong Christian principles and loved to serve others. Her family was very important to her, and when she and her husband decided to move to the UK to be closer to their family, the Fish Hoek Lions Club lost two dedicated members."
