Southern lights

Steven Shannon, of Glencairn Heights, captured this rare glimpse of the southern lights, or aurora australis as it is known in the southern hemisphere. The lights were visible in the early hours of Saturday May 11 in southern Africa after the strongest geomagnetic storm in 20 years hit Earth, according to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Space Weather Prediction Center.
