The fourth annual Project Noordhoeked auction fundraiser will have a total of 16 items up for auction. The successful bidder of this Gavin Thomson piece gets themselves drawn into the stands, with up to five people included.
The fourth annual Project Noordhoeked auction fundraiser is set to take place next month, promising a night of art, music and community spirit.
Café Roux is expected to be filled with 120 enthusiastic supporters, on Tuesday August 6, at 7pm.
Karoline Hanks, the driving force behind Project Noordhoeked, a non-profit community project led by volunteers and residents, says there are exciting things to look forward to at this year's event.
There will be 16 auction lots on the night, and one of the standout items is The Epic Game by Gavin Thomson.
This signed framed A1 print features 1 350 supporters from every nation on earth, complete with their flags.
“The successful bidder gets themselves drawn into the stands, with up to five people included. They can choose from rugby, football, cricket, or the Olympic Games. It took over a year to complete,” said Ms Hanks.
Another highlight is an original piece by renowned artist Andrew Cooper titled Noordhoek Outride.
The artwork, measuring 60cm in height and 105cm in width, is listed on Mr Cooper’s website for R80 000.
For the auction, the reserve is set at R40 000, providing a unique opportunity for art enthusiasts to acquire a valuable piece while supporting a good cause.
Tuesday Houston, a returning artist to the auction, has contributed a framed artist's proof archival print titled, Whale of a Time.
Last year, her piece, Toadally Plausible, received the highest bid of the evening.
“This is the second time I’m taking part in Project Noordhoeked’s fundraising auction. I feel Karoline and the team do such amazing work in our neighbourhood,” she told the Echo.
Adding to the evening's excitement is a performance by Ben Dey and the Concrete Lions, and comedian Nik Rabinowitz.
Project Noordhoeked relies heavily on the community’s support and their annual auction is essential for obtaining the funds needed to operate.
“We have about 60 regular monthly donors, without whom we could not survive. Our annual auction is essential for sustained salary payments and also for materials, sundries, and general project expenses like tools, trailer hire, petrol, chainsaw parts, and groceries for the team.”
This year, each table at the auction will feature a project registry listing items that the team needs but cannot afford, such as a snake handling course for a team member, a trailer, boots, and new uniforms.
“Guests can choose to fund an item or pledge an amount towards one,” said Ms Hanks.
Last year’s auction raised R150 000, and the team hopes to match or exceed this amount this year.
Tickets cost R350 and can be bought on Quicket. Email Karoline Hanks at karabos@mweb.co.za for more information.
