Fish Hoek High shines at 70th anniversary gala

Fish Hoek High School celebrated its 70th anniversary on Friday with a black-tie gala dinner, featuring Olympic champion Chad le Clos as the guest of honour.

The event, held in the school’s Hepworth Hall, brought together past and present members of the school community.

Guests were treated to a four-course meal prepared by the school’s catering team under the guidance of private chef and former pupil Grant Kipling.

The menu included butternut ricotta ravioli with arrabbiata sauce as a starter, followed by chicken ballotine with champagne sauce, creamy mashed potatoes, honeyed baby carrots, and pickled courgette ribbons. Dessert was a limoncello cheesecake with pistachio crumb.

Kfm’s Mitch Matyana was the master of ceremonies. He interviewed Chad Le Clos on stage, discussing his career highlights and what drives his passion for swimming.

Former principal Gavin Fish provided a brief history of the school, while current principal Steve Joubert spoke about plans for a new state-of-the-art aquatic centre.

Entertainment was provided by some of the school’s pupils and former pupil, singer and songwriter Amy Hay (née Tjasink) a former contestant of The Voice SA in 2019,

The night ended with an auction.
