Beach clean-ups will be held in the Blaauwberg area from Monday next week in the build-up to International Coastal Clean-up Day on Saturday, September 21.
The City is inviting the public to take part in beach clean-ups in the Blaauwberg area as part of Clean-Up and Recycle SA Week from Monday September 16 to Saturday September 21.
The week of beach clean-ups builds up to International Coastal Clean-up Day on Saturday September 21, according to mayoral committee member for spatial planning and environment Eddie Andrews.
Participants should take their own gloves. City staff will provide bags.
“More than 700 000 volunteers in 120 countries around the world take part in the world's biggest clean-up. The beach clean-ups will focus on the coast from Melkbosstrand to the Eerste Steen Resort. Residents are invited to join between 9am and noon next week,” Mr Andrews said.
Here are the meeting spots for the clean-ups:
“I ask residents who have some time available in the morning next week to please join us and assist with the beach clean-ups. Our team is ready to meet you and will appreciate all the help we can get. It’s the perfect opportunity to soak up some of that sunshine and fresh air we have been missing all during the winter months.
“Those who can only come on Saturday, please join us down at Eerste Steen Resort on September 21 for International Coastal Clean-up Day. We can all lend a hand to ensure that this famous and beautiful stretch of coastline is kept in the most pristine condition possible,” said Mr Andrews.
