Pupils from the Protea Heights Academy, in Brackenfell, have donated 319 blood units and secured the school a spot in the top 10 schools list for blood donations this year, according to the Western Cape Blood Service. The Settlers High School and Hoërskool DF Malan, both in Bellville were also in the top 10 and had donated a total of 275 and 258 units, respectively. The top school was Hoërskool Outeniqua from George with 421 units. Pupils across the province donated 16 768 units of blood in total, the organisation said, adding that most schools hosts blood donation clinics once a term.
