Manenberg police station bagged “the best station of the year” award at this year’s provincial police awards.
The award ceremony was held on Saturday January 18, at the Century City Conference Centre, where awards recognised various achievements including: outstanding dedication, service, and excellence across various categories within SAPS.
Manenberg police station bagged “the best station of the year” award out of 144 police stations in the province.
Other awards also given out included those for: community partnership, provincial commissioner, senior management recognition, individual achievements, detective services, family violence, child protection and sexual offences, visible policing, and administrative excellence.
Manenberg police chief Brigadier Jayce Naidoo said that the award was a community effort as it was only achievable through various partnerships including residents, neighbourhood watches, community police forums, and more.
He said that the award ceremony was a good idea because it helped to boost SAPS morale.
“We are feeling excited about this award. There is a lot of criticism against SAPS so these awards are uplifting. It takes lots of role-players in the community to get this award, not only SAPS. We attribute it to all the role players,” he said.
Provincial police spokesman Colonel Andre Traut said that the awards celebrated the unwavering dedication and hard work of police and teams who went beyond the call of duty to ensure the safety and well-being of communities.
“Congratulations to all winners for their remarkable contributions to the Western Cape,” he said.
