A Fisherman's cottage on Killarney Road
Explore Muizenberg and its rich architectural heritage on a walking tour by Muizenberg Heritage, formerly known as the Muizenberg Historical Conservation Society.
Brett McDougal, director of the Muizenberg Historical Conservation Society, will lead the 90-minute tour, starting at Surfers Walk of Fame Circle on Beach Road (just outside Hans and Lloyd) on Saturday February 8, at 10am.
Mr McDougal said Muizenberg’s architectural fabric, dating mainly between 1900 and 1940, was remarkably intact.
Palmer Road, he said, was once the business centre of Muizenberg, and residents and visitors had a choice of where to buy their groceries, have shoes repaired and furniture upholstered. There was even a milliner to provide the latest fashions in hats.
Participants can also expect to find out more about the village’s connections to the whaling industry and the delivery of airmail in South Africa.
Participants should meet at the circle at 9.45am and wear comfortable shoes, a hat and sunscreen.
Tickets cost R100 and are available on Quicket.
