Sentech donated electronic equipment to Molo Mhlaba in Khayelitsha.
It was smiles galore when state owned entity Sentech donated 30 tablets and eight projectors to Molo Mhlaba school in Harare Square on Friday January 31.
This donation comes after the school had written a request for assistance from the company some time last year.
Acting CEO of Sentech, Tebogo Leshope, said they saw the goal and objective of the school and it was very moving — and aligned to the development of girls in the country.
He said they value the inspiration that Molo Mhlaba has on girls and wanted to support it through this donation.
He said the Ipads would enable the girls to interact with the world through the internet and impact their growth.
He said they wanted to see these young girls become successful and hoped they would look at Sentech as one of their prospective employers.
“We believe through such engagement we are also creating awareness about our company and what we do. We hope that one day we will develop engineers and future CEOs of this company through such donations. The culture set for kids at the school is very inspiring and motivating,” he said.
Molo Mhlaba director, Rethabile Mashale-Sonibare, said they wanted their grade 6 and grade 7 classes to become paperless and these devices would help them achieve that goal.
She said the girls would now have access to online learning and would be taught computers skills.
She said the school was cautious about cyberbullying and teachers would monitor pupils' online movement.
The devices belong to the school, she said, adding that it would help the pupils prepare for their future.
“We are really excited about the donation,” she said, adding that the school was focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
“We do a lot of coding and chemistry in science, and e-learning is one of the biggest components of what we do,” she said.
